New CD & DVD! "Listening to the Daily News with a Contemplative Heart" & More

A 2-CD set by Rev. Glenda Meakin offered by Medio Media.

Daily News

These four talks offer reflections on the ways Christian meditation enables us to listen to the daily news and respond to the needs of the world from a place of compassion, justice and love. Rather than being overwhelmed by the daily news, we learn, through the practice of meditation, to offer our talents and resources in humility and service. In meditation we discover the inner resources, the insight and the grace to do our small part in healing of the world.

Christmas Message 2010 - Laurence Freeman

IndiaMotherandChild

Mother and Child, Ladakh India

December 24th 2010

Dearest Friends,

This year as always, the timeless Christmas story speaks to us and enlightens the listening heart at many levels.  There is the simplicity of the story and the unfathomable mystery of what it is saying. So, too, the story of our own lives, as we have lived them to this point, can be told in a few words; but no words can express their meaning and the wonder of our joys and sufferings, failures and discoveries. There is the human fragility and marginality of the characters, Mary, Joseph, Jesus, the Shepherds – none of them among the powerful ones of the world. And yet through and around them is the presence of God speaking His Word in a silence that brings down the mighty from their thrones and humbles our own chattering egos.

In the story there is both a tenderness and a mighty toughness and resilience. We feel deep emotion and yet contemplate a reality that takes us beyond sentiment and emotion, to a place of truth and love in which all desire is fulfilled and all that is incomplete is led to completion. Read more »

Live Webcast (Recorded 11/19/10)

Laurence Freeman"The Joy of Work" with Laurence Freeman - Webcast recorded Live in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Friday Nov. 19.
What makes work a meaningful, creative and joyful exchange of energy with others? Fr Laurence explored this question in this conference. He looked at how spiritual wisdom has helped humanity to enjoy their work with good motivation and aiming at the goal of improving the lives of others. He spoke of the dangers of work when it loses this dimension of creativity and service and he drew on the wisdom of the universal tradition of meditation to suggest how the inner work transforms the outer.

The event was held at the theater of the prestigious Sao Paulo (Brazil) bookstore in Paulista Avenue, and addressed local business people of the corporate sector.

You can see "The Joy of Work" on our VIDEO page (under MEDIA in the top menu) or on the Meditatio YouTube Channel.

Despite the weather Fr Laurence managed a flight to Geneva where he spoke at an Interfaith conference organized by the Swiss Coordinator John Moderle. Fr Laurence was joined by Muslim and Jewish teachers Dr Skali and Rav Guedj to speak on the theme Sacredness and Silence. Read more »

Greenbelt Festival 2010 | Slideshow & Listen

Over the last six days of August a team of particularly keen meditators made their way to Cheltenham for a week of camping, praying, and soaking up all that Greenbelt Festival has to offer. With a participant capacity of 21,00, and events of every kind – from comedy to music, talks to drama, meditative Mass to Goth Eucharist – this was a chance for part of the WCCM community to share in some of the diversity that makes up our Church, as well as to spread the word about meditation and the prayer of the heart.

Second in attractiveness only to the meditation itself was the impressive yurt which housed our times of prayer. Twenty-one feet in diameter, two and half hours in constructing, and lent for the week by generous friends of WCCM, we were quite the cream of the campsite crop.

We gathered three times each day to still ourselves within its beautiful structure of wooden poles and canvas, and by the end of the week it had become a space of spirit and silence. Read more »
