Ten Day Christian Meditation Retreat

Bere Island, Co. Cork, Ireland: 14-24 September 2011

Led by Laurence Freeman OSB

In response to many requests for longer silent retreats the first Community 10-day meditation retreat will be held in the peace and beauty of Bere Island in the mellow month of September. It will be led by Fr Laurence and will be an opportunity for meditators to go deeper as well as to share their spiritual journey with others on the same path.

Community and solitude, silence and sharing will blend in an atmosphere of quieter, calmer slower-moving days open to the presence of God in the beauty of nature as well as in the friendship of spiritual friends.

Holy Week Christian Meditation Retreat 2011

Bere Island, Co. Cork, Ireland: 17-24 April

Led by Laurence Freeman OSB

Holy Week is the final run-up after Lent to the climax of the Christian year, the great Triduum opened on Holy Thursday, of Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday. These days draw us in to the mystery of Christ, experientially and by deep reflection on the story of these days where suffering and death explode into the joy of the Resurrection.

We will again be entering into these holy days contemplatively in the beauty and peace of Bere Island. Fr Laurence will lead the retreat and celebrate the liturgies in the island church with retreatants and islanders. Participants gather at the Heritage Centre daily for a talk, meditation and discussion and other events are scheduled and recommendations made days to enhance the preparation for the celebration.

Retreat Schedule:

A detailed Daily Schedule will be given on arrival. There will be yoga each morning at the Heritage centre followed by a talk by Fr Laurence and meditation. There will be a common evening meditation also.

Palm Sunday (17th) opens the retreat with a liturgy in the church at 10.15 am followed by a midday talk and meditation at the Centre. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be on Thursday at 6pm. The Good Friday service will be at 3pm. The Easter Vigil will begin at 10.00 pm. At dawn on Easter Morning those who wish will assemble by the Standing Stone in the centre of the island. There will be Mass of Easter morning at 10.15 am. The retreat will conclude at the Centre at noon with a final talk and meditation.
