The Spectrum of the Self by Shaikh Kabir Helminski

Kabir Helminski is a Shaikh of the Mevlevi Order of Sufis which traces its inspiration to Jelaluddin Rumi. He and his wife Camille founded and now direct The Threshold Society which studies and practices Sufism and spiritual psychology. He is also co-director of The Book Project an Islamic education project. He is one of the foremost literary translators of Rumi. He is international retreat leader and focuses on Sufi music, writing, teaching and developing a program of spiritual education.

Much of Sufi teaching and practice centres on the stages of the transformation of the self through experiential contact with higher reality. Shaikh Kabir Helminski applies its traditional methods of transformation to the contemporary environment. He talks about the nature of “presence” and the cognitive dimensions of the heart and illustrates this with selections from his translations of Rumi.
