I was born in a typical intellectual middle-class family in São Paulo, Brazil. In the 1970s, my father began to work at one of Brazil’s first environmental agencies and the environment became a common theme in my life from an early age. As a professional translator and interpreter, I have translated various academic papers and conference talks on environmental issues and visited the Amazon region twice. In 2020, I spent eight days in the rainforest with my husband and later became involved with Indigenous movements as a translator and activist. I am a Christian meditator and member of the Laudato Si' Movement. Pratico a meditação cristã e participo do Movimento Laudato Si'.

Esteban Gonzalez Zugasti

Esteban Gonzalez Zugasti is a mechanical engineer and social anthropologist, but prefers to define himself as a naturalist and agro-ecological producer. He has worked for several years as a missionary among indigenous groups in the Argentinean Chaco, and much longer on his family's farm near Mar del Plata, Argentina. There he helped develop and now manages a nature reserve where he practices native ecosystem conservation, environmental education mainly with school children, and seeks to be a space where people can connect with nature, with other people, and with the Creator.

Can meditation contribute to redress the climate balance?

It certainly can, as 100% of the root causes of climate change are a consequence of human behaviour. We believe meditation can increase awareness, reduce mindless action, and foster a focus on life on the planet to balance the excessive focus on financial results – even if they require predatory, cruel or practices that hurt the planetary ecosystem.

Join us on Saturday, January 14, 2023, 12:00 PM-4:00 PM UK time to learn how meditation can contribute to mitigate the climate crisis.

Three speakers from our community – Jim Green from the UK, Christiana Ferraz Coimbra from Brazil, and Esteban Gonzalez Zugasti from Argentina, all of them involved in the field of meditation and climate change – will be presenting the progress of their work so far.

We will have discussion groups and close the seminar with a panel discussion.

We have to charge for this event so that we can continue the work that is being developed. However, if the cost makes it difficult for you to attend, please contact meditatio@wccm.org

The event will be recorded.
