The vine is used as a symbol of oneness, fruitfulness, and flourishing life. Jesus uses it as a symbol of participation and of connection. We have to be connected to the source, to the vine. And where is the vine? It is planted in in the soil of the ground. Being in the Father. Our first connection is with Jesus as the vine himself, rooted and growing in the Father. One with the Father. It’s this connection which is all we, the branches, need to grow and for the grapes to appear. It’s not quite all we need, but without it there is no growth, no life, no fruit, no wine. And if we are disconnected that means weâre only connected to ourselves, to our own point of view, to our own concerns and problems. Connected even to our own desires and fears.Â
