Meditation opens up for us the spring of prayer, which is not my prayer at all, but it is the prayer of the Spirit. ‘We do not know how to pray’, St Paul said, ‘but the Spirit prays in us. I am with you until the end of time.’ (Rom 8:26). It doesn’t, as I say, replace other forms of prayer, but it changes the map or the picture of prayer that we have.
