Secondly, Jesus says, ‘When you pray do not go babbling on like the Pagans who think the more they say, the more likely they are to be heard. Your Heavenly Father knows what you need before you ask.’ Babbling on – for most people, their experience of church is noise. Maybe a beautiful noise, maybe beautiful words, maybe beautiful music, but it is non-stop. From the minute the service begins till the minute it ends, it is wall-to-wall noise. And for many people who are looking urgently for some deeper contemplative experience, the church has very little to offer. Our worship can be beautiful, meaningful, but it is not contemplative in any very meaningful sense.
