That’s the second element of the teaching of prayer that we find in the gospel: the inclusion of silence, based upon faith that God knows what we need, even before we do. Fundamental faith. A shift. It’s a shift in our understanding of the nature of Christ. It doesn’t mean that we can’t have intercessory prayer or petitionary prayer or pray for healing or pray for the COVID crisis. But it means we don’t identify the mystery and the experience of prayer just with intersessions and petitions.
