We do discover in the waiting, in the contemplative mind we discover that happiness is there, is present. And it manifests together with reality itself. So God manifests, as he did for Keats in the garden with that little bird, God manifests whenever we pay attention. Simone Weil said that ‘God is attention without distraction’. That is like saying God is love. Except in saying it this way, it reminds us of the process by which we become divinised, by learning to pay attention without distraction.
