God is infinite growth and our life is derived directly from this mystery of life itself, of growth itself, until we become absorbed in it. So what does he say here? That phrase that always strikes me very powerfully is that little phrase that the the farmer throws seed on the land and the seed sprouts and grows night and day. When he is awake, when he is asleep, the growth process continues. It’s like at all levels of consciousness it is growing. We are growing whether asleep or awake, but how it grows we do not know. How? he does not know. And it’s that unknowing which allows us to see and experience the sacredness of life, the sacredness of growth. And to be reassured in our darker moments that growth is continuing, come what may. And regardless of how we may understand it or think we understand it it’s bigger than us. So how we do not know and yet we know that it is growing.Â
