Keeping faith alive

Whoever does not believe, Jesus says, will be condemned.
Condemned by who? By what? Not by God. If we do not find this faith and open ourselves to it and do what we can to keep it watered, to keep it alive and to let it grow, then our lives will condemn us. Our lives. And at the end of our lives we will feel that we’ve missed something, something essential. I don’t think the mercy of God stops there, but all that we can speak about or understand actually is this life. So if our own lives condemn us for their lack of meaning, for their lack of joy, for their lack of wisdom, these words of Jesus are life giving and liberating and, yes, challenging, too.
