We looked at the teaching of Gregory of Nyssa, one of the great teachers of the Christian mystical tradition, especially his key insights into the nature of God as infinite, boundless, and therefore beyond concept; and also of the idea of eternal progress, that our journey is not a journey to achieve a certain particular state or particular kind of experience but it’s to journey really beyond limitation. John Main used to say, the only thing we have to lose is our limitations. And losing our limitations means opening ourselves to the boundlessness, the eternal nature of God and the eternal progress that we are making on our journey.
