What are the signs that the dominance of the ego is, at least sometimes, happening in our own lives? Gossip, for example, enjoying gossip in which the people involved in the conversation attack another absent person’s weaknesses. Or when you are involved in a discussion and there’s a difference of opinion and you want to win the argument at any cost. You can’t imagine not emerging from the discussion as the victor. Or another aspect of the ego will be that we are constantly, compulsively comparing ourselves with others, often jealous or envious of others, always looking to see how we compare. So the ego can fall into one or other extreme.
