The conditions that we need to cultivate in order to break through the wall of the ego, opening up into the realm of the Spirit are faith in terms of perseverance and commitment. This is something you have to discover for yourself, just like a new husband or a new wife. It’s what fidelity means, what monogamy means, what it means to remain committed. And, as in any human relationship of that kind, there will be testing moments. But it’s only in our own experience, and only through our own interpretation of our experience, that we can really make this commitment. And then when we do we discover this is exactly what the human being is meant for. This is making us more human. And any person who has not found it by a late stage in their life, what it means to commit themselves has a big work to do. Because breakthrough, the process of breakthrough, that is what gives life vitality and energy and joy.
