Second thoughts

I am sure you have had the experience of feeling, a great movement to be generous to someone or something, and then a day later, or a week later you begin to have second thoughts about it – ‘maybe I was a bit rash, maybe I offered to do too much’. Well, that can happen in meditation, too. But we can understand, at the early stages, this is what makes meditation so attractive to us, that it is an opportunity to make this complete act of generosity which we long to make because this is what is going to make us fully human, take us beyond ourselves, but then we begin to backpedal because it seems too much, or it seems too demanding.
