See things as they really are

We’ve been talking about the journey using the two images of sudden enlightenment and gradual enlightenment. There were two examples of sudden enlightenment in the Christian tradition which I would remind you of, moments of illumination, moments of wonder, moments where you are filled with a sense of presence, and where you as it were break through some kind of self-consciousness, some barrier or some block or the brick wall of the ego. You can break through that for an instant and you see things as they really are, and you feel them as they are, you feel that energy of wholeness and oneness. And you know that this is true. And even if it passes as an experience in time, it has left you changed, it has convinced you, it’s left its mark upon you. And even if this were never to happen again, you know that this is real, and you may not be able to experience it in the same direct way just when you want to, but nevertheless you know that it is real and it is the journey you are on.
