Sense of disconnection

(PHOTO: LAURENCE FREEMAN, FRANCE)

If we’re only connected to ourselves, then as Jesus says, we won’t produce anything. There will be no grapes. And life will lack the wine of joy. And with that sense of disconnection that so many people feel today, everything that we want to avoid entraps us: anxiety, self-centeredness, the illusion that our perspective is the only perspective, that we are the only ones who get it right.  Look at the world of politics today. So many people are all convinced that they are only right and they cannot even listen to the other person. This feeling of disconnection produces anxiety and discontent, even violence. Confusion about what we are supposed to be doing in this life. What is our direction? What is our purpose? If we think of ourselves as his disciples what are we producing?
