Wherever there is a predominance of the instinct to survive and to remain separate, you can see that the ego is operating in an unhealthy way. One of the concerns of the ego is to help our sense of separated selfhood, to survive at all costs. And so the ego will wear whatever set of clothes best achieves this, it doesn’t really matter what it says, what version of the truth it gives, the end justifies the means. The dominance of this kind of false communication in the media has severe consequences for us all, for democracy, which relies on open conversation, honesty, transparency, and mutual listening in a common quest for the common good, the best possible outcome for the greatest number.
