Ego is not destroyed. Many people turn to drugs, for example, as a way of forcefully getting beyond the ego and sort of destroying the ego. It may indeed lead to some remarkable experiences, but if the ego is destroyed, hurt, battered, then it hasn’t died but it continues to be maybe an even more difficult obstruction in the future. So the ego like everything else in God’s creation, has to be loved not attacked or destroyed.
