The vision of metanoia shines like the sun of the true Self, our ‘point of origination’ or the ‘divine spark’. The mind is remade through steady practice and peaceful bursts of self-understanding arising from silence and stillness. Mind and ego are the same. Like the moon that shines with the sun’s light, mindego reflects the light of being, of the God-Self which absorbs all counterfeits or opposition. ‘Every image of God is an idol’, Gregory of Nyssa says. Bonaventure discovered, as each of us will, that ‘we must suspend all the operations of the mind to enter this sacred mystical experience (which) cannot be understood by anyone unless they surrender themselves to it.’
