According to Thomas Aquinas, ‘Contemplation is the simple enjoyment of the truth.’ Simple, without analysis, without planning, without having to explain it all, without having to control it – the simple enjoyment, the joy that any artist has in creating, and every artist loves what they make. God loves the world. God is the supreme artist. And in our creativity we may not be poets but we may be creative, we are creative in other ways, and meditation opens up for us our inner creativity. So this is what I mean by waiting. It’s not, ‘How long is this going to take with our meditation?’, it’s not waiting in that impatient, wanting to get it over with or wanting to possess something
