Unconditional presence

“I am with you until the end of time,” Jesus said. That’s real presence. Unconditional presence. That is what nourishes us. That is what opens up for us this experience of true happiness, even in the midst of the problems of life. The Eucharist is an expression—not the only one—but a very special one, for those who are tuned into it. Not everybody is. But it’s a very extraordinary expression in the simplest possible way, actually, of this real presence. But so is meditation. And for the great majority of people who don’t tune into the Eucharist, or haven’t picked up the wavelength of it, meditation is probably the most direct and simple way that they could find this peace and happiness and nourishment in themselves.
