Guy Claxton is a cognitive scientist. He holds degrees in Natural Sciences from Cambridge and Experimental Psychology from Oxford. He is interested in the expandability of real-world intelligence and in recapturing and refining the non-intellectual ways of knowing associated with unconscious and bodily processes. His practical methods of deepening teaching have influenced schools in many countries. His books include Hare Brain, Tortoise Mind: Why Intelligence Increases When You Think Less and Intelligence in the Flesh: Why Your Body Needs Your Mind Much More than It Thinks.

Giselle Genillard

Giselle Genillard is the founder of SOS International (SOSI) and combines her training as a somatic therapist with the art of midwifery. She has worked internationally in trauma outreach teams in South-East India post-tsunami, New Orleans post-Katrina and post-colonial South Africa post-independence. Giselle introduced Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing (SE) trainings in England and France and specialises in working with post-traumatic stress in childhood, adolescence, war situations and high stress.

In this round table dialogue, Prof Guy Claxton, expert in cognitive science along with Phyllida Anamaire, Irish writer and poet, and Giselle Genillard, trauma worker and midwife will explore Embodied Intelligence and the practical implications of a new integrated intelligence.
