Leave a legacy for
The World Community for Christian Meditation
Meditation is the art of selfless attention and its fruit is to help us to see ourselves, others, and God more clearly, more compassionately. As a universal practice, meditation is found at the heart of all great spiritual traditions.
Learning to meditate is a discipline, which teaches us to become present rather than remain at the mercy of unconscious habits and distractions. Becoming more conscious then transforms us, all those people we relate to and the institutions we are all connected with in some way. Meditation is a way of contemplation or ‘pure prayer’. It is at the heart of the desert wisdom which powered the Christian monastic tradition. ‘Experience is the teacher’, as this tradition says.
Even if you don’t feel connected to a faith tradition, however, the regular practice of meditation is associated with many well-researched physiological and psychological benefits. But meditating with Christian faith opens up a new dimension of meaning within the experience. It reconnects us to the contemplative dimension of the Gospel, allowing us to see all reality in the light of God’s love. It builds community and brings contemplation into action.Â
2021 is the 30th anniversary of the WCCM. In this time we have grown from the seed planted by John Main, nurtured by Laurence Freeman and a great number of other teachers throughout the world. Leaving a legacy to WCCM will make a deeply felt difference. It will help us to sustain our existing work and respond imaginatively to the many opportunities opening in this new world of ours. Your legacy for the future will mean that you can work with us to to help to shape this new world.Â
This could mean, for example, to attract people and help those in need to attend our events, help young people to spend a life-changing period atour retreat centre at Bonnevaux in France, participate in our varied outreach across a range from business leaders to the homeless, from school children to people in recovery, and to access our range of online resources to deepen both their understanding and their faith. WCCM is a community – primarily dependent on committed volunteers – and (in a confident way) we depend on the generosity of our community and our benefactors. What is our vision?
- John Main, OSB
We know that your first priority when making a Will is to provide for your loved ones, but many people find that even after they’ve done this they can leave something to a cause they hold dear in their heart.
A legacy to WCCM would be a lasting gift, and build up our work by:
- Forming and enabling our leaders and especially younger teachers to share the gift of meditation
- Opening up opportunities for meditators to come together through retreats and encounters
- Showing young people how to find God and help transform the world by their own personal transformation
- Bring an active contemplative approach and passion for justice to a polarised world that is so often divided by violent words and actions
- Producing an online study programme as well as online retreats and a wide variety of publications & resources.
A gift in a Will can take any form:
- An outright gift of cash.
- A percentage of the overall value of your estate.
- A gift of real estate.*
- An investment (artwork, jewellery, stocks, etc).*
