When I reflect on the teaching of Father John Main, I am especially moved by the words in his opening prayer. They remind me that whenever I meditate, I am in union with God. This simple truth encourages me to go deeper in my practice. Because meditation is not just a personal habit, it is a way of being present with God.
This has given me a strong sense of belonging, of being part of a spiritual family that goes beyond borders. And I feel this is something the world needs very much today.
With so much noise, busy-ness and division around us, Fr John Main’s teaching reminds us that contemplation is not an escape, but a healing presence.
Meditation opens space for peace, compassion, and unity, values that our society and our world are longing for. His teaching has influenced me by grounding my daily practice in faith, by opening my heart to God’s presence, and by showing me that meditation is both deeply personal and profoundly communal. It is a gift that continues to transform my life, and I am grateful to share in this tradition.
John Main OSB (1926-1982) is the founding inspiration of the World Community for Christian Meditation and this year marks the hundredth anniversary of his birth.
