Ora et Labora in Modern Business: A Leader’s Journey with Sean Hagan

I am Ricardo. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I was part of the first cohort of the WCCM  Academy and one of our first teachers was Sean Hagan. His lectures were particularly important to me.

I have been running a company for the last 25 years. And I have often found it difficult to integrate my own spiritual life and practice with my everyday work. I’ve always been drawn by the combination of ora et labora that Saint Benedict established for his monasteries.

In Sean, I found someone who was able to experience this integration while developing a very demanding professional career and who has the ability to communicate this experience very well.

It’s been two years since the course, but his teachings are still part of my daily experience at work.

For instance…

...Sean showed us how meditation helps us to make better decisions. We tend to confuse what is real with what is not. And often create narratives for our own emotional comfort. And contemplative prayer helps us to engage in reality, observe ourselves and therefore make better decisions.

Another topic he discussed with us was how meditation supports self-management. We cannot manage others if we don’t first manage ourselves. I need to manage those aspects of me that, if I left unmanaged, will lead me to unhappiness. He also explained how good leaders invest in relationships, cultivate a sense of purpose, deal with destructive emotions, develop a conscious sense of growth. So, I truly recommend Sean’s next retreat this July in Bonnevaux It’s a unique opportunity. Thank you.

Explore how a contemplative practice can enable us to experience greater stability, strengthen our relationships and help us become more effective leaders during Sean Hagan’s retreat The Spirit of Work: The Integrated Professional in Bonnevaux this summer.
