The long-time Spiritual Advisor to WCCM (Hong Kong), Fr Tommy Murphy, passed away early on the morning of 6 January. He had been ill for some time.
Fr Tommy was born in 1949 in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland. In 2006, he was elected superior general of the Missionary Society of St Columban, and served until 2012. Under his leadership, the Columban Missionaries moved its headquarters from Dublin, Ireland to Hong Kong. Since 2009, he has been the spiritual advisor to WCCM (HK), leading the annual Lenten Retreats and giving sound advice whenever it was sought. His commitment to meditation and to WCCM (HK) was steadfast, even until his last days.
His remains will be sent back to Ireland.
