The early monks asked themselves ‘What is the real goal of the monk’s life?’ In the confusions of our time, more and more I find it helpful to use ‘monk’ and ‘meditator’ interchangeably. With the spreading of a serious practice of meditation in all walks of life, the meditator is, in many ways, the new monk. So, let’s ask ‘What is the real goal of life?’ and see what the monastic wisdom has to say.
