Words of love and hope in times of war

The World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM) gathered online on 9th November to reflect on the theme “Love in the Time of War.” It was an especial moment to explore how, even while living in the epicentre of the violence of war, the practice of meditation can support both our mental and spiritual health, helping us to maintain the inner light of humanity within us. We find that we are able to experience a radical spiritual transformation during the most challenging times we face.

Maria and Albert Zakharovy, National Coordinators of WCCM Ukraine, spoke from Lviv and shared their experiences of meditating during wartime. They also presented a video featuring testimonials from younger Ukrainian meditators. The event included enriching reflections from Fr. Anastasiy Danylevsky (a Ukrainian visiting Bonnevaux), Fr. Laurence Freeman, Rev. Sarah Bachelard (speaking from Australia), and Herman Van Rompuy (the first permanent President of the European Council from 2009 to 2014).

You can watch the full event below; however, please note that Herman Van Rompuy’s speech was published as a separated video due to a technical issue.
