WCCM Joins Global Contemplative Vigil to Mark 10th Anniversary of Laudato Si’

The World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM) will join a global contemplative vigil on 25 January to mark the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. The vigil, organised by the Laudato Si’ Movement, will bring together various faith-based organisations and individuals committed to ecological conversion and action.

Earth’s crisis – the ravaging of its climate, the imbalances in its ecology – is a central concern for the WCCM. We are delighted to play a role in the opening session of the vigil and Jim Green, lead member of WCCM’s Earth Crisis Group, will give a short talk about the healing of our relationship with Earth through our shared practice of meditation. The opening session will also feature representatives from other partner organisations, each sharing their perspectives on the importance of caring for our common home.
The vigil will continue with a programme including Laurence Freeman, Director of the WCCM, who will lead a talk and meditation period.

WCCM is honoured to participate in this global event and to collaborate with the Laudato Si’ Movement. The contemplative dimension is crucial in addressing the ecological crisis, as it allows us to connect with the sacredness of creation and cultivate a sense of responsibility towards our planet.

The 10-hour vigil will be held online, enabling people worldwide to participate. Each hour will be guided by a quotation from Laudato Si’ and the wisdom of leading contemplative communities. The event will feature songs, silence, readings, and images to facilitate a profound experience of reflection and communion.
