“Embodiment” — In my flesh I shall come face to face with God (Job 19:26)

In this talk Giovanni will speak out of his 30 year of experience, working with people through touch and movement, as a Rolfer, yoga teacher and movement therapist. He will show how the very young science of human movement uses the term “embodiment” to herald a new way of understanding how we come to “know” our bodies and how we humans get up on our two feet and move about in a world.

In this talk Giovanni will speak out of his 30 years of experience, working with people through touch and movement, as a Rolfer, yoga teacher and movement therapist. He will show how the very young science of human movement uses the term “embodiment” to herald a new way of understanding how we come to “know” our bodies and how we humans get up on our two feet and move about in a world.

Through art, nature and anatomy he will help us to see how our body is more than an object that we measure, idealise and perform good or bad deeds in. How much more is “embodiment” the very tissue of relationship made to go beyond itself as naturally as a flower loses its petals, an apple tree drops its fruit in autumn and snowdrops or wild garlic come up through the ground in spring.

To journey into this understanding we will connect with moments of one the oldest stories told in the human family — the biblical story — to shine light on how our “embodiment” is the ground and key therefore for the promise of a face to face encounter with the Divine.
