Perfectionism, Fr Laurence says, is a danger on any spiritual path because it condemns you to a permanent sense of failure and leads to despair or hypocrisy. Our call is to be perfect “as your Heavenly Father is perfect” (Matt 5:48). God’s perfection is the wholeness and inclusiveness of his love that makes the sun shine on the good and the bad alike. Imperfection, when embraced in humility and in love, allows the power of God to lead us and heal us.
